Marlin 39a serial number dates

The Genfield's used the same serial numbers as the Marlin's. The model 57, might have a 2 letter code on the barrel, if so you can go to the part on the serial number sheets, that says Non 39A's 22's. This will only work if it it was made between 1962 and early 1968. Otherwise there were no serial numbers on non 39A's 22's, from 1935- 1968..

For example a Marlin model 39A with a serial number of N12478 would have been made in 1955 while a 1894 in 44 magnum with a serial number of 25105098, would have equated to 1975.It did say Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn in italics on the barrel and it does say MARLIN GOLDEN 39A in caps. I know "golden" means its not old old. But it only had a 4 digit serial number located under the lever handle on the bottom tang, 3367. No other numbers on the exterior of the rifle.

There is a thread somewhere on here that gives about all the serial number information if you want to do a "SEARCH" for it. It is a Model 39 made from 1922-38, case color receiver, 24" octagon barrel, first variation. If you read the gun the information is right there on it upper tang behind hammer "Model 39".
