I fill the oil filter full, roll it in my hands, tipping it sideways as I do this while the oil is absorbed into the filter element, then fill it again about 2/3 of the way. Every once in a while the lights stay on for a bit with my 800, but a rev of the engine and they go out.POGs were replaces with steel starting in 2000, so that won't be an issue. Once it has over 30-40k miles, it may need cam chain tensioner extenders, but that's an easy fix. We had the tank rotted and creamed. The bike will run for several weeks and then it floods. We have cleaned the carb several times. We put on an external fuel filter. The petcock has been cleaned and the carb rebuilt. We dont know why it continues to flood.Check for oil around the spark plug cavity and then explore this further. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar.
