Like the 1985 Lincoln cents from Philly, the 1985-D pennies are made from a cheaper copper-plated zinc composition and really aren’t worth saving if they’re worn. While 1985-D pennies aren’t rare coins, there are some that are worth significantly more than their face value: Most uncirculated specimens are worth 10 to 20 cents apiece. Wrong planchet and off-metal errors occur when a correctly made blank from one denomination is accidentaly fed into a press for another denomination. Examples are a nickel struck on a cent planchet and a cent struck on a dime planchet. The coin struck on an incorrect blank will weigh exactly what the denomination of that blank would have been.

They are MAD which means the one of the dies was misaligned where as an off-center strike is created when a planchet is not centered correctly (typically as the collar is stuck) and the whole coin (obverse and reverse) are both struck off-center equally.
